The Induction of Kate Carmack
On January 10, 2019 Kate Carmack (also known as Shaaw Tláa) was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame along with Klondike Discoverers: Skookum Jim Mason, Dawson Charlie, George Carmack and Robert Henderson. The nomination was a collaborative effort between the Kwanlin Dun First Nation Youth Advisory Committee, Youth of Today Society (YOTS) and Yukon Chamber of Mines.Zena McLean, a descendent of Kate Carmack, accepted the award on Kate’s behalf. On hand to witness the event was: Kwanlin Dün First Nation Chief Doris Bill and Councillor Jessie Dawson, Yukon Government Premier Sandy Silver, Deputy Premier Ranj Pillai, Minister Jeanie Dendys, AFN Regional Chief Kluane Adamek and members of the Youth of Today Society, Kwanlin Dun’s Youth Advisory Committee to Council and Yukon Chamber of Mines past President Sue Craig and Executive Director Samson Hartland.
